Yes, each year we nominate a ‘local charity of the year’ and support various other charities and community groups. Due to the number of requests we receive, we are unable to support each one, see our Charity Policy for more information.

My favourite Village Bakery product is no longer available, where has it gone?

We keep in touch with our customers to find out what tastes are trending and sometimes find that products which were once top sellers are no longer as popular. Sometimes we stop selling these products to make room for fresh new ideas as we want to provide our customers with a variety of their favourite baked goods and brand new ranges. We always welcome your feedback so if you think we’ve missed a trick, please let us know.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Our bread bags are made of PE and are all recyclable with plastic bags but not currently at curb side. The packaging on our pies, welsh cakes, scones - OPP Film is recyclable but not at curb side. The U cards inside products such as welsh cakes are recyclable.

Packaging for crumpets, pikelets and pancakes is not yet recyclable.

Why do you put palm oil in your products?

The reason we use Palm Oil in our products is due to the bread-making process in the UK. This means we need a small amount of solid fat in the recipe. In order to avoid animal fats we use sustainable palm oil because it is the only vegetable oil which is naturally solid at room temperature. We have been working for a number of years to responsibly source the small amounts of palm oil we use and we will continue to do this. We have been members of the Roundtable on Sustainability Palm Oil (RSPO) since 2010 and all of the sustainable palm-based ingredients we use are sourced from RSPO certified suppliers.

We are confident that the body is effective enough and all our suppliers must be able to demonstrate that they are purchasing sustainable certified palm oil; this is challenged on a regular basis. We understand the negative press however we are an environmentally aware company and do our utmost to ensure we have strict environmental requirements from our suppliers.
